Below is all the keywords, terms, and meanings of words found on the cards and in the GWENT: The Witcher Card Game.

  • Agile: Refers to card that can be placed on any row. The icon is two arrows in the shape of a circle.
  • Ambush: A card with this is played face-down and only revealed when a certain event is triggered.
  • Armor: Absorbs a given amount of Damage dealt to a Unit.
  • Boost: Increase a Unit's current Power.
  • Brave: Triggers the effect after you played your unit and still be losing after calculating the new strength difference.
  • Breedable: Cards affected by Monster Nest.
  • Bronze: Bronze refers to the lowest tier of units. Though the player may have any number of Bronze cards in their deck, they may only have three copies of any single card.
  • Consume: Destroy a card (or Banish it, if it is in the Graveyard) and Boost the Consuming Unit by its Power.
  • Deathwish: A card with this has an ability that is triggered when the card is defeated.
  • Demote: Convert the card to Silver (or Bronze, if Bronze was the card's original color).
  • Deploy: Trigger this ability when the card is placed on the Board.
  • Disloyal: This card can be placed on the enemy's side of the board; also referred to as a "spying" unit.
  • Dwarf: This is a type of unit card particular to the Scoia'tael faction.
  • Elf: This is a type of unit card particular to the Scoia'tael faction.
  • Fleeting: The card is removed from the game when killed, rather than going to the graveyard.
  • Fog: See Weather below.
  • Frost: See Weather below.
  • Gold: Gold refers to the top tier of units. These units are not affected by weather and many abilities. Though the player may have four Gold cards in their deck, they may not have any copies.
  • Highest: The Unit with the highest Power. Ties are resolved randomly.
  • Immune Boost: This ability provides immunity to Weather effects.
  • Lock: Locked units lose all tokens and have no ability until replayed or moved to a hand.
  • Lowest: The Unit with the lowest Power. Ties are resolved randomly.
  • Loyal: This card can be placed only on the summoner's side of the board.
  • Machine: This is a type of card, usually tagged on siege machine cards, such as Trebuchet.
  • Muster: This ability summons forth other units.
  • Overdose: This ability removes immunity to Weather effects from a unit.
  • Passive ability: A card with the fire icon has an ability that is triggered by certain events.
  • Permadeath: Once in the graveyard, this card cannot be revived unless specifically stated in an ability.
  • Relentless: The card cannot be removed from the battlefield and put it back into the player's hand.
  • Reset: Reset the Unit to its base Power.
  • Resilience: A card with this will stay on the board for the next round in the match rather than going to the graveyard when the board is cleared.
  • Shield: Shields protect from one strength-removing effect (but not from strength-resetting or swapping effects).
  • Silver: Silver refers to the mid tier of units. Though the player may have six Silver cards in their deck, they may not have any copies.
  • Special: This cards are non-unit cards that apply an effect to the board or units; they do not contribute to a player's overall strength.
  • Spying: Refer to Disloyal above.
  • Strength: Essentially the "health" of a unit. Provided a unit stays alive, its strength contributes to the player's overall strength, which is essential for winning a match.
  • Token: A unit summoned by another card.
  • Trio: Trigger this ability when 3 Unlocked copies of this Unit are present on the same row.
  • Unit: A unit is a card played directly to the board.
  • Weather: Weather is an effect applied to one or more rows on the board that serve as a debuff to units.
    • Fog: decreases the strength of all non-immune units on or appearing in the affected row to 1
    • Frost: decreases the strength of all non-immune units on or appearing in a melee row to 1
  • Wild Hunt: a type of unit that is particular to the Monsters faction
